 New York City , New York. home of New Yorks elite family circuit, the best education anyone can get from Saint Venus' private school for girls, the Marcus Academy for boys and of course New York University. Too add to this perfect ground for raising elegant girls and well mannered men there are also the society's gruling eyes peering down, into homes, trying to unpick the seams of those perfect smiles. Of course there aren't just the elite families to contend with, New York is famous on account of the backs that made it, and those people - working, striving hard to become like these wealthy families, are still present in the expanding city. The times have changed since the 19th Century, where it was fashionable to be wearing full length skirts, ringlet curls, corsets and hats, to be incredibly procelein and pale and to act as aloof and emotionally unattatched as possible. The mode of transport was a horse drawn carriage and the bigger the house, the bigger the ballroom and the better the hosting skills the more of a socialite and elite family you were. The way to get your sons and daughters noticed for the marriage around the ages or 18-22 was sending them to dance with anyone who requested it at balls, which was when the debutante balls were introduced. Those new to the dances and the etiqutte were required to go through training and announced, showcased almost, in these elgant balls dedicated to them.
Not much has changed. The elite families may not now wear floor length skirts, bloomers or corsets. Their mode of transport has horse power, but requires no horses, and being pale is deffinately not in fashion anymore. However many socialites depend on hosting their own parties, their own modern day balls, masquerades in fancy locations, or better yet - their homes. The young men and women of today are closely followed by the New York Gazette's Society Page which reports every inch of scandal it can. Make your way into the Elite or expose those secrets beneath the perfection or be one of those secretive family children, eitherway it's all what makes the modern day elegance of the city last.
