what we have is worth fighting for TAKE MY HAND, TAKE A BREATH pull me close and take one step wwwwww…” she whined, wrinkling her nose in disgust as she glanced down to find a pink lacy thong wrapped around her toe, “ don’t you know how to use a laundry basket mya?” she added huffily, kicking it at the closest wall before hastily retreating from the bathroom. “ double ewwwwwwww…" she said, coming into the lounge room to find her half sister and boyfriend on the couch together, half naked…mercifully they were only kissing, “ do you guys have to do the nasty on every piece of furniture in the house? ” she complained, to which her sister shot back, her smile aggravatingly unremorseful “ of course….” before being pulled back into another kiss, “ I’d like to remind you...theres young impressionable children in this house you know” she spat, brows narrowing she leapt on top of them and tugged hard on a chunk of her long dark hair. “ man…you need a boyfriend wendz. Pronto… Might put you in a better mood. " “ psh, boys are nothing but hassle…especially the ones around here, besides, I think you’ve got sordid flings well covered…”She said, rolling her eyes, and going down the hallway to her room. --- Brushing her hair up she tied it firmly, before attacking the unruly curls with bobby pins. Yawning she turned and gave herself a brief assessing glance in the mirror. At least she didn’t look as tired as she felt, that was something. Slipping out of her flannelette cookie monster pants, she replaced them with a pair of jeans, she debated the necessity of a t-shirt but decided to just go in the singlet she was already wearing, it was clean…enough. Besides, if she didn’t hurry up she’d be late. " those aren’t mine.. rang out Myas voice from the bathroom, “ well they are most definitely not mine, nor do they belong our sister…so unless Z has a secret underwear fetish you don’t know about..” she replied, turning and catching a scatheing glare from the younger girl, to which she reponded with a rueful smile. Oh, how much she’d like the thrown down right there but— --- There was no time for that. --- Brushing past she went back out to the kitchen she poured herself a cup of coffee, doused it heavily with sugar and sculled half of it in one sip.“ I’m off” she said, pausing to grab her stuff , “ to where?” her sister inquired half heartedly as she went strolling outside in her underwear to get something out of her car, effectively distracting a bike rider enough to send him careering into the next door neighbors bin. “ work..” she replied simply when she returned, catching her mischievous look and laughing despite herself. “ at this hour?”““ early shift..,” She responded dismissively, as though her sister should already know, she was far to self-indulgent however to remember anything that didn’t directly affect herself, “ I work at a bakery…duh, why do you think I constantly smell of cakes and donuts?” she joked, yawning, “ I don’t know why you’d bother… ” She added, with a shrug, taking her cup from her and stealing a sip, she rolled her eyes again and poured herself another. " some of us have to work, you know.. to survive .." she added, rolling her eyes and making for the door. --- She made to work with less than a minute to spare, and her boss gave her the second inquiring look for the morning. He never yelled, never got annoyed, he just doled out extra chores. Her sentence? Cleaning out the fridges, the whole wall of them before the end of her shift, and that was on top of serving customers and icing all the cakes and everything else. Luckily, it was proving to be a quiet morning, especially for a Saturday, as it tended to be a pit stop for the hoards heading home after a night out. Seizing the opportunity, whist there was no other things for her to do, she grabbed a bucket and cloth and got to work. So focused on her task, scrubbing a particularly tough mark right at the back of the fridge, she didn’t realize anyone had come in until she heard a bemused “ hello..?” ring out behind, which made her jump, and smack her head. “ f.. ” she caught herself, just barely, “ ..arrr out.. ” she amended, biting back the explentive and shaking her head, “ be with you in a moment she added, extracting herself a little more carefully, and standing up, rubbing her head and frowning. “ what can I get you? ” she said, her embarrassment keeping her from looking up and establishing eye contact, instead she turned retreated to behind the counter. what we have is worth fighting for TAKE MY HAND, TAKE A BREATH pull me close and take one step ” she responded, which was by far an exaggeration, she wasn’t going to die, but smacking her head that hard had only exacerbated her headache. Then again, she could be spouting blood kill-bill style and still act like everything was fine. To his next words she looked up, meeting his gaze for the first time, no matter that he looked tired, annoyed and hungry, which was most likely the reason behind it, “ and what would you know..?” she responded heatedly, before she could curb it, damn that temper of hers, it was forever getting her into trouble. Just then the door swung open, followed by an influx of teenage boys who were either drunk or high – perhaps both, she groaned inwardly, noting familiar faces, though they were not familiar not by choice, they were familiar because they were often hanging around the place doing a fine job of making a nuisance of themselves. Fortunately, shortly afterward came noah, a pint sized Hispanic whose tone-tone Mohawk was being worn coquettishly by his left earlobe, and who was covering the next shift. The boy while vibrant and cheerful was rarely punctual, especially on a morning shift, and she was not surprised to glance at the clock and find that she could have knocked off over ten minutes ago. “ bagels…” she prompted, for her own benefit, as she turned to retrieve some. She must have been suffering sleep deprivation because she couldn’t recall how many the boy had asked for, shrugging she stuffed the bag full, discarded her apron, and with a parting glance toward her co-workers rounded the bench to hand them to him. “ don’t worry about it..” she said, when he reached for his wallet, “ sorry about um.. snapping at you, and everything, its just been a.. long morning..” she gave another shrug, pondering why she even felt the necessity to explain herself, she turned to leave and paused, “ by the way, the names Wednesday, in case you feel the need to .. you know, chat with my boss about my exceptional customer service skills..” flashing a mischievous grin she made for the door. what we have is worth fighting for TAKE MY HAND, TAKE A BREATH pull me close and take one step ” she murmured, half under her breath, her green gold eyes gleaming with a mixture of amusement and annoyance, as she ran a hand through her hair. “ its not stealing if I’m giving them to you..” she pointed out, more loudly, meeting his gaze for a moment before backing through the door that she already had pulled half open, amazed and relieved not to encounter another body in the process. Spinning on her heel now she took the three steps down to the sidewalk in one fluid jump, thereby eluding his attempt to repay her once again, and narrowly missing a teen rolling past on a skateboard. She could tell, even without his vocal protesting, that this was starting to aggravate him, one look at his face could tell her that much, and honestly? if she’d been in the same position, she would have reacted the same way. She could be rather ungracious toward anything received freely, but that stemmed simply from an upbringing where she had had to earn everything she had. There was, of course, one gaping exception to this, which was her shameless exploitation of jude’s coffee making finesse, but in her mind that was really more of a trade, she got him into the hottest clubs and he graciously indulged her caffeine addiction – a win win situation really . “ wow..” she said, cocking her head ever so slightly, her gaze sweeping warily across him, as though expecting him to perhaps pass out right there and then, “ how are you even still awake?” she asked, genuinely curious, she worked three jobs and as a result got little sleep, but she couldn’t fathom being awake for a day solid and still functioning with any level of coherency. Her expression went from curious to intrigued, appraising “ more importantly, what is it that you do that requires such a feat of mental endurance..?” she continued, her vocals mildly teasing, hoping she wasn’t crossing the fine line between curiosity and straight out nosiness. “ and I don’t bake pies..” she concluded loftily, turning in place and moving up the street with active swinging gait, after a brief lull she glanced across her shoulder, “ I bake cakes..” she called, allowing a laugh to escape her momentarily. Noting the disgruntled expression again she grinned, her lack of remorse apparent; this was vegas, there was a good chance she’d never see the boy again, let around talk to him, why not have a little fun at his expense? Harmless, right? In fact, the idea of lingering just a little longer didn’t sound half bad, and turning she pondered how best gain his co operation on the matter. “ You still want to pay me back?” she began, which, while posing convincingly as a question, was really nothing of the sort “ coffee.. on you” she smirked faintly, “ you look like you could use it..” without even awaiting an answer she was off again, slipping in and out of the heavy thong of people on her way to her favorite coffee shop. what we have is worth fighting for TAKE MY HAND, TAKE A BREATH pull me close and take one step ” she responded, her expression challenging, curious, pensive. She shrugged, mouth tipping slightly, like a laugh she wouldn’t indulge, “ sure.. if you feel like donating to the noahs-back-pocket fund.. ” she said simply, a wry grin spreading infectiously across her lips as she glanced back at the door, watching the two boys shuffling animatedly around trying to serve the masses, which might have been the most excerise either of them had had for awhile, she was defintely not envious of them right now. “ I’m sure he would appreciate it ..” she added, her dark eyes glimmering, announcing her enjoyment with teasing him. She was both surprised and unsurprised to find that he’d followed her, most people would had given up, would have decided it was hardly worth the effort just to leave their pride intact, most people would have bailed with the freebies long ago. But he was determined this one, more determined than she’d been expecting, or more self righteous, either that or he was so incredibly bored the idea of following some nameless stranger had actually become appealing. She wouldn’t have minded either way, but she was in some ways glad, she could always use more people in her life to torment. To his words she glanced across her shoulder briefly, before pausing, angling her body back towards him and placing her hands on her hips, “ if you had been listening..” she began, the scolding that slipped into her vocals only playful, light, half hearted “ you would already know what my name is .. what did you think? I gave you a false name?” she bit back a laugh, considering it for a moment, it really wasn’t that far fetched an idea, people probably did it all the time, especially in vegas, where almost everyone had a past they would gladly be rid of. Turning she scanned the workers behind the counter, somewhat disheartened not to find jude, she always had so much fun annoying him at work, then again she had fun annoying him anytime really. However she did see another boy, the only other one she’d found who could make a coffee just how she liked it, she could be somewhat finicky when it came to these things. Slipping through a huddle of giggling teens she came to a halt beside him where he stood in the line, remaining there until they made it to the front. “ jay already knows how I have it..” she announced, grinning at the boy who was serving, who flicked a glance at nick and then shifted his attention back to her, his brow arching minutely . “ I’ll be over here..” she added, ignoring the look, and hoping that had been subtle enough for her company not to notice, before motioning to a table up the back, where she normally sat, mainly because it was right by a window. “ you didn’t answer my question you know..” she reminded teasingly when he arrived with the coffee, her gaze flitting down to the cup before moving upward to rest on his face, her expression expectant. what we have is worth fighting for TAKE MY HAND, TAKE A BREATH pull me close and take one step inability to stay still, at least not for long. Luckily both her jobs entailed a fair amount of movement otherwise she doubted she would have lasted long at all, in fact her first boss pretty much exploited this idiosyncrasy, sending her on all sort of errands. She couldn’t believe it (well really she could since males were known for such lapses in cognition) he had actually managed to forget her name in the ten or so minutes since had told him. The silence stretched, she watched the bag move up, then down, and she found herself suppressing the smile that she normally would have let slip across her lips, mainly because she thought it best not to irritate him any further. Instead she just gazed at him, waiting, her eyes glittering with amusement, when he finally replied she gave a small chuckle, and fell silent, figuring he probably had more to say. “ surprise, surprise.. ” she responded, her tone faintly sarcastic, “ well its nice to meet you nick.. ” she added, offering a wry grin, blatantly aware of the obvious irony in that statement. Sliding into her favorite seat in the shop she peered outside, watching the people bustle past, a good quantity of these with their eyes glued to a phone or ipod or blackberry – it was a wonder they didn’t run into each other really. Yawning she turned her attention back to her delightful company, and just in time to see him annihilate his taste buds with his coffee, she laughed, offering a wide grin as he came across to join her. She found herself raising a brow at his response, for some odd reason it surprised her, though she wasn’t really sure why, it definitely wasn’t the sort of job she had expected him to have in any case. Not that she had really had a moment to decide what profession that he looked like he belonged to, or didn’t belong to for that matter. In fact, that one of the odd games she liked to play with her friend grace when they were waiting for a bus or something equally tedious, suddenly the tall suited businessman was a male escort, the betty crocker look-alike a phone sex operator, she stifled a grin at a thought. “ well that explains it .. nick, whos name I still remember.. ” she began, raising a brow and giving a playful grin, “ I think the key word here is sometimes, as in, not regularly, you get pretty used to sleep deprivation after awhile.. ” she gave a shrug, “ then again, I don’t think theres a person alive that could be awake a day straight and still be sunshine and roses.. ” dropping his gaze she ran her finger around the lip of her cup, collecting the excess caramel sauce that had been drizzled on top, before licking it off, “ actually… im sure of it..” she added, picking up her cup and pressing it carefully to her lips, in an attempt not to scald herself, putting it down again she leaned back and gazed at him thoughtfully, “ so have you always wanted to be a systems analyst and database administrator? ” she inquired, beaming proudly at her ability to repeat the job title without tripping up.
