occupation: guidance counselor at Las Vegas High School, aka shrink to the kids who need it most.

been in vegas for how long and why: rumor has been in vegas on and off for the past four years. her father is in prison here, and she'd like to be close to him. she spent most of her adolescence here, and there was stability believe it or not. so she decided to move back, and create a new life where she felt most at home. though no school in the area would hire a convict's daughter as a teacher, LVHS did hire her as the guidance counselor, figuring she of all people had the most experience and could relate better to the kids with her young age.

Intelligent: With a strong passion for learning and spreading her knowledge, Rumor can be seen as quite the nerd at first sight. She enjoys reading and researching more than a night on the town, but she won't turn you down all the time. She's unpredictable at best, but that's just one of her many qualities. For now, we focus on her uninviting and intimidating intelligence. She will gladly school you in any subject, and if she feels as though she is incapable of winning the battle via true facts, Rumor will gladly and very unashamedly create facts of her own, until you are on your knees, whimpering for her to stop.
Assertive
Courageous: In large part, this courage is nothing more than a front. Or at least that's how it started off. It evolved, naturally, into something more real, because after years she'd convinced herself that life was just as pleasant and easy as she made it. Whether it was waltzing up to her father's ex cell mate and asking for a favor, or visiting the prison at all, things became easier for Rumor as she grew, because she'd been able to create a surreal world around her where nothing could go the way she didn't want it to go.

Passionate

Intuitive: Scott would always joke about how he was sure Rumor had some sort of sixth sense, always knowing when to leave the room to avoid being caught in the middle of a father-mother fight, or when Scott was happy enough to be coaxed into buying her a new binder for school. Whatever she was granted, Rumor was left with an unmatched ability to read other people, and though her intentions are rarely innocent, it's usually twisted into whatever she desired. This quality does come in handy from time to time, but it works to her favor and gives her the uncanny edge of being nice when necessary, and only when necessary. Otherwise, her brash sense of humor and variety of cursed phrases kick in, and you'll be left whimpering yet again, wondering what the hell happened.

Teasing: Rumor is her name, teasing is her game. Rumors are nothing but teases after all, and Rumor uses this to her advantage. Though she isn't anything as she seems, Rumor enjoys putting on several different facades, and stunning the shit out of people. It's just her thing, and her uncanny ability to always get what she wants using this tactic makes it fool proof, and ever the more likely to be used.

Narcissistic: Yes, Rumor loves herself. It's hard not to with a back story like hers, seeing as most people haven't been kidnapped, don't have fathers in prison, and aren't fully functional by the age of twenty one. She enjoys who she is and she's not afraid to tell you what you're doing wrong. The funny thing is, though quiet at first, her opinions only come when completely unwarranted, which she supposes simply adds to her charm. For everything with this girl is twisted positively, is it not?

Targeting

fears: The things Rumor fears are as follows: being caught doing something illegal and ending up in prison like her father, getting lost - she's very meticulous when it comes to directions and organizing information. Losing and failing are high on the list as well, as is solitude, but who doesn't fear being alone? She can't help it - being alone most of your life does that to a person.

secrets: Rumor tends to shy away from speaking, and a low profile is what she aims for. But she's not afraid to tell anyone her father has spent more time in prison than not, so it's a secret until she decides to share. The other is that she is obsessed with the piano, and spends most of her time indoors, at the piano, playing and perfecting Bach and Mozart until her fingers bleed. It's a fetish, one can say.

goals: Rumor has many goals, though most are not exactly easily attainable. One is to free her father from prison. Most would laugh at her, envisioning a delicate doll dressed in chiffon and lace probing barbed wire for her life. It doesn't exactly suit the image. The second is to become a school teacher, but with her history, few are willing to hire without conditions. Lastly, she aspires to find someone as easily messed up as she is, but with all vigor to fight through life by her side.

history: Rumor was born on July 1st, to Scott and Laurenne Mills in Downtown, Los Angeles, in a bath tub at the family's one bedroom apartment. Rumor was born Nora Rumor Rose, but the name Nora never stuck. It was one of those let's-pretend-we-didn't-make-that-mistake sort of things. Scott Mills was a local thief with his brother, James Mills, who were notorious for pilfering around small shops in the Downtown area. It was how they made their living, and Laurenne was never able to say anything, seeing as this was how the bread was put on the table every day. It wasn't something you brought up at the table anyways. Those few times Scott was actually around, Laurenne never mustered up the courage to stand and say, "Say, Scott, why don't you try and find a real job, that doesn't involve the cops tailing you every FIVE minutes? Hmm?"

Laurenne Mills raised Rumor in their one bedroom, beaten down apartment in downtown, while Scott Mills and his brother spent time in and out of jail, but rarely came home. To deal with the stress, Laurenne found comfort in drugs, and smoked continuously in order to escape from the pressures of her life and raising a daughter on her own. Laurenne wasn't a bad mother, not in Rumor's eyes in the very least, simply not strong enough to avoid the pressures of wife-of-thief. It wasn't her fault, at least not to Rumor. Rumor was enrolled in a local public school, where she was often known as the girl who never spoke, and remained in the corner without making friends.

At the age of fifteen, Rumor found that her mother was diagnosed with Emphysema, and could no longer work. For that reason, Rumor took up a few jobs at local supermarkets, movie theaters, and diners. When she turned sixteen, her mother died, and she was sent into the care of her mother's sister, Janelle. Eventually, after her father was sent to prison once more, Rumor was legally adopted by Janelle, and resumed her life after switching to a better school. Though still public and widely criticized for consistent budget cuts, the school nurtured Rumor in whatever way it could. She remained ostracized for her mute behavior, and spent most of her time doing homework and frequenting the library. It was an obsession after a while, but it worked for her.

When Scott Mills was released from prison a few months later, he and his brother attempted to convince Janelle that they could care for Rumor, but Janelle refused. A month later, Scott and James picked up Rumor from school, and forced her to live with them. They moved to Las Vegas, and surprised that Rumor didn't mind being kidnapped, established an earnest living. Well, as earnest as two thieves could get. For the next two years, both brothers stopped their stealing, and raised Rumor to be a strong, independent young woman, while Janelle and the rest of LAPD searched for Rumor and her kidnappers.

Her father and her uncle never let her out of their sight, and home-schooled her brilliantly. She became outspoken, gregarious, and intelligent. Still latched on to her obsession with learning, Rumor grew into a brilliant nerd, but at the same time, a beautiful young woman, and too opinionated for her own good. After all, living with two men consistently crushed that filter Janelle had instilled in her. It was charming really, the way she turned out.

At the age of eighteen, on her way home from the supermarket, Rumor was recognized and followed home, where the LAPD showed up and arrested her father and uncle for kidnapping. Since the Rumor was of age, she was placed in a supportive housing facility instead of returning to her Aunt Janelle's residence. Though she continuously testified in favor of her father, the court refused to believe that Rumor had willingly agreed to remain in her father's care, and Scott and James were sentenced to thirty years in prison. It was at this point that Rumor refused to associate to Janelle, the woman she believed to have broken her family.

At the age of nineteen, Rumor was re-enrolled in a community college, and then transfered to UCLA, where she finished her studies a year early. But things weren't the same, and Janelle's constant protectiveness pushed Rumor away, and she moved back to Las Vegas to establish a living as she had two years ago. Now, at the age of twenty-one, after inheriting her father's hefty - though undeserved and largely illegally acquired - fund, Rumor lives in a Lakewood Condo, owned by a friend of her father's. Funny how life turns out, right?
