Dreamer,
Grace grew up being told that you can do anything you want to do, as long as you put your mind to it. She never understood that this wasn’t quite as easy as it sounded, and reality was a bit harsher and less forgiving. Therefore, Grace lives her life as though it were some sort of dream. Whenever she wants something, she’s quick to talk her way into it. She hardly knows the difference between dreaming and being absolutely unrealistic, but never takes ‘no’ for an answer. She believes that life is too short to live it the way others want you to, so she does what she wants and sometimes it gets her into trouble.
Determined, Following up her entire philosophy about dreaming and dreaming big, the only way to achieve said dreams are by being determined, another quality that Grace so distinctly possesses. This characteristic often hurts her more than it helps her, because her fierceness of being set on what she wants often brings her against other people. She’s never intentionally or purposefully hurt any of the people in her life, but sometimes does it on accident. She’s determined to do what she wants and get what she wants, and often uses her words to do just that, unaware of the harm it sometimes causes others.
Loyal,
Growing up with a very small group of people in her life and close to no family, Grace learned at an early age to remain loyal to those who show nothing but love and care for her. Therefore, Grace was fiercely loyal to her few friends, and her Auntie, as well as all of her so-called brothers and sisters. To this day she remains thankful and grateful to everyone who helps her out.
Dramatic,
As a child, Grace grew up pretending to live a life that was nothing more than a dream. She believed she was some sort of princess, cradling a wand and tiara everywhere she went and speaking in her own imitation of the Queen of England. She was overly dramatic about everything; if the tiara fell off of her head she’d fall to the ground, as though she’d melted and withered away without it. She always spoke the loudest, and caused scenes and calamities when things didn’t go her way. She was known for bringing the pandemonium, but nevertheless did it in such a way that people found it to be humorous. “Oh, there goes Grace again,” they’d say, and laugh it off.
Childish,
In regards to her dramatic behavior, Grace was always viewed as being absolutely childish in every which manner. Immature at times, she never understood when it was necessary to be serious, or when she would have to contain herself and act proper. She always cracks jokes at the most inappropriate times, and often says the wrong thing in front of the wrong crowd.
Gullible,
One of Grace’s biggest flaws is how gullible she is. The girl simply can’t tell the difference between a lie, and the truth. It’s gotten her into much trouble, since most people have been able to take advantage of her. When she was younger, many of her friends told her silly things in order to get her to do things that were unacceptable or even illegal at times, and it almost always got her into trouble.
fears: The things Grace fears most all stem from stories she'd been told as a child. For example, Grace absolutely prefers the outdoors, because she knows that one day, the roof will cave in. Grace is also afraid of getting lost, meeting her parents, and being sucked up by a tornado. Ultimately, isolation is pretty much the only real one.
secrets: Grace steals. Well, to her, it's borrowing, with the idea that one day when she's rich and famous, she'll give it all back. In fact, she's got a list where she notes down what she's taken from people. She's lost this list twice, so it's not entirely up to date or complete, but at least she's made the effort. Her second secret is that when she's bored, Grace likes to make up characters in her head, sit in cafes, and befriend people by pretending to be someone entirely different.
goals: Obviously, Grace's first goal is to become a famed singer and songwriter. The second, is to be able to repay all the people she's stolen from. She's convinced she's not a bad person, so really, that's high on her list. And the third, is to one day have the courage to meet her parents and tell them everything she's been through.
WHEN I GET HOME
family: Lily Sinclair – Mother. Scott Smith – Father.
The Loved,
“Auntie” Claire Burton – Aunt. “Uncle” Charlie Burton Timothy Burton – Cousin. Alice Burton – Cousin. Anna Burton – Cousin. William Burton – Cousin.
history: Grace’s story began in a small town on the outskirts of London, in England, where Lily Sinclair lived with her two parents in an incredibly small apartment above an equally small and cozy bar. The bar was a popular resting point for visitors, and young adolescents who could afford a cheap drink. The bar was the only bar in town that offered musicians the chance to perform, with an open stage that was quite popular to those who wanted just a bit of attention and fame. Lily herself was an aspiring singer, who worked in the bar as a waitress in order to help her parents make whatever money they could to get by. After her evening shift, Lily would sometimes sit herself down upon the wooden stool on stage, and recite her lyrics while strumming away at the acoustic guitar she’d bought herself at the age of sixteen with a few month’s worth of tips. Lily was just eighteen at the time, and living a simple but content life.
Scott Smith was twenty, and a man living in Greenwich Village in New York City. He attended a college, studying to become a doctor so he could make something of his life. One summer, Scott and a few of his pals decided to take a trip to England, and landed himself at the bar at which Lily worked. It was love at first sight; the moment they laid eyes upon each other, an unspoken connection between them made them absolutely inseparable. For the remainder of the summer, Lily and Scott did absolutely everything together, falling deeper and deeper in love with each other than imaginable. At the end of the summer, Scott had to return to the States, leaving Lily behind forever.
Fast-forward nine months, and Lily had bore a baby girl. There was absolutely no question as to who the father was, but the amount of Scott Smiths in the United States made it absolutely impossible to find him. Lily’s parents were quick to disown her, and so she lived with her sister, Clair Burton and her husband. Within months, it was evident that Lily was becoming more and more unhappy. Unable to follow her dreams of becoming a singer, and unable to provide for herself and her baby daughter, Grace, Lily found it harder and harder to live each day. Claire was quick to see her sister’s condition, and was determined to fix her sister’s state of being. Promising to take care of Grace and raise her well, Claire sent Lily to the States to find her one true love and pursue her career in music. After a few months of letters back and forth, Lily was never heard of again.
As Grace grew, Claire took care of her as though she were her own child. She provided her with everything she needed, too afraid to keep the girl from anything, seeing as neither of her parents was around for her. Claire, and her husband Charlie, bore a few kids of their own. First came Timothy (Tim), Alice, Anna, and then William (Baby Willy). Grace was treated as one of the Burton children, and was loved by each of her brothers and sisters. She took care of them, and looked after them dearly.
Grace took interest in many things, such as getting into trouble and doing things that were normally frowned upon. But the one thing that always brought a tear to Claire’s eyes was Grace’s interest in music, especially the guitar.
Grace’s family was never wealthy enough to send her to the greatest school, or buy her the most expensive clothes, but Grace grew up just as content and simple as her mother. She was loved in the little town she lived in, and was known by everyone. Grace often sang in her grandparents' bar, without the slightest clue as to who they were to her.
When Grace was seventeen, Claire noticed that her growing passion in music would eventually wither if she remained in this small town in England. Though the family’s lack of a surplus of money could do nothing for Grace. In a conversation, Claire had suggested going to New York to pursue her career in music, without the slightest idea that Grace would take this seriously. Weeks went by, and Grace had devised a plan to make it to New York, and start a new life.
For weeks, Grace created bracelets with colored thread and tacky beads, and sold them to people around the town for a few pounds. She must have created hundreds of bracelets, and sold them by saying that those who wore the bracelets were blessed for eternity, because they helped Grace Sinclair live her dream. Months later, after Grace’s eighteenth birthday, she finally acquired enough money to pay for a one-way ticket to New York City. So she packed a single suitcase full of all of her clothes and ownings, and slipped her guitar case over her shoulder, bidding her family fairwell before embarking on a new journey.
After struggling in New York for a year, Grace was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. A man named Darrell Johnson, who had seen Grace perform at a bar, expressed his interest in her music, and told her that he could take her to Las Vegas, where she would make it big. Of course, Grace was naive enough to agree, and it wasn't until she was in Las Vegas, standing in front of a pimp joint, that Grace realized it was all a big mistake. At this point there wasn't enough money to fly back to New York, so she settled down.
